Going Green is Gold for Weir Holiday Park

Weir Holiday Park has added to its collection of awards for 2016 with a Gold from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme.

This award compliments their recent Gold from Yorkshire in Bloom in the Holiday Parks category and their 4* rating from Visit England.

Weir Holiday Park is uniquely located on an inland island in the River Derwent at Stamford Bridge, just 7 miles from the City of York. This award marks the park as one of the UK’s greenest places to take a break – recognising the work of the team at the park in protecting and enhancing the natural world.

This is a particularly special year for Weir Holiday Park to win as the park was flooded in the December 2015/January 2016 floods.

“We have had to manage the need to improve flood-resilience with our desire to encourage wildlife into the park, and conserve the natural environment that makes our parks so special for our guests” said David and Christine Hind, owners of the Park.

David Bellamy said he was “absolutely amazed” when he discovered just how much was being done by holiday parks to protect and enhance the natural environment. “Many parks like this have created wildlife wonderlands, and I think it’s time they were given deserved recognition for their big commitment,” said Professor Bellamy.

Weir Holiday Park is part of Yorkshire Holiday Parks which the Hind family own and run. Weir Holiday Park was judged on ecological management (what is done to help wildlife); sustainability (conservation of resources and reduction of waste); and good neighbourliness (support for the local community and economy).

This is the third consecutive year in which Weir Holiday Park has won a Gold Award from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme.
