Make your holiday lodge as cosy as your home

One of the perks of owning your own holiday lodge is being able to personalise it – decorate it and truly make it a home from home holiday experience.

Rule number 1 for decorating your holiday lodge is, there are no rules! It is yours – somewhere you can escape to, relax in, unwind and enjoy. The space should reflect you. We’ve pulled together some guidance though – so your space looks as fabulous as possible.

Choose a theme for the interior – contemporary, rustic, traditional, country or uber-modern – there’s plenty to choose from but establishing your theme at the start of the project will help with direction and choosing furnishings and accessories.

Colours for the interior of your luxury holiday lodge should be influenced by the tones in the wood of the walls, floor and ceilings. Choose colours that complement or contrast with the existing tones.

Texture and warmth can be added with fabrics: furnishings; curtains; cushions; blankets; rugs and pillows. Lovely soft thick fabrics can add richness and warmth to a bare canvas. Mix up florals and stripes if the colours remain within your chosen palette. Rugs can make a room look bigger – or smaller, depending how you position and size the rug. Generally speaking a large rug will make a room look larger. They can also add warmth and reduce any echo.

When picking out furniture for your holiday home remember this is to be a relaxing environment – comfort is king! Functionality though has to be a consideration – furniture that can double up as storage provides a wonderful space-saving solution. Consider too the size of the furniture and how you will use it – buying purely for decoration is a no, no in a holiday home – it will need a purpose to warrant floor space.
