Get the kids camping this Bank Holiday!

Yorkshire-based holiday park is encouraging kids to get camping as part of National Caravan & Camping Week (25th May-31stMay)

More and more we are told of children suffering from ‘Tech Neck’, a curvature of the spine caused by bad posture when using mobile devices, playstations and computers. One local Holiday Park is urging parents and grandparents to “Get Kids Camping” as part of a national campaign by the Caravan and Camping Club for Caravan and Camping Week (Monday 25th May – Sunday 31st May) to help combat the reliance on technology by children as a form of play.

Yorkshire Holiday Parks – owners of Weir Holiday Park (Stamford Bridge) and Allerton Holiday Park (Allerton Park) – believe that children reconnecting with the outdoors through caravanning and camping will shape childhood memories more than playing with technology. “Offering a safe environment in which children can play provides an opportunity for them to explore the world around them and, we believe, this can fire their imagination more than playing a computer game.” said owners David and Christine Hind.

Yorkshire Holiday Parks is keen to encourage families to their parks and believe that connecting with the great outdoors is just one benefit of staying on a holiday park. Weir Holiday Park is a gold award winner, having received a David Bellamy Conservation Award in recognition of their efforts to protect and enhance the natural world around the holiday park.

“We are seeing more children come on holiday to our parks with their grandparents” said Christine Hind “We have recently updated some of our information packs to include simple things like colouring-in pages of wildlife that they might see in the park, and suggestions of i-spy games to play”.

The Caravan and Camping Club’s research has found that there are positive benefits for children on their practical abilities, confidence and energy levels if they go camping or caravanning. They have also found that 80% of campers feel that these types of holidays bring you closer together as a family.
